Psychedelic Phenethylamines
Mescaline and its synthetic descendants: the 2C-x series (2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamines varying at the 4-position), the DOx series (their α-methyl amphetamine homologues), the scalines built out from mescaline itself, and the trimethoxy TMA compounds. The 4-position substituent is the whole story — 2C-B, 2C-E, 2C-T-7 and DOM share a backbone and share little else. Duration is the clearest divergence: the DOx compounds run far longer than the 2C-x compounds, long enough that a slow onset invites a second dose that cannot be taken back.
The N-benzyl derivatives of these same compounds are a separate family, and the methylenedioxy versions are filed under Entactogens. What kills in this family is mostly the para-methoxy amphetamines here, PMA and PMMA, whose onset is slow and whose overdose is hyperthermic; vasoconstriction with high or repeated DOx doses is the other recurring harm.
