The long read
Who they say they are, and what the record says
Opia is a brand, not a shop. Its tablets come on a rounded foil card printed with clouds and the word OPiA, and they are sold in smoke shops, vape stores and gas stations, and through online kratom retailers. Its own website, opiakratom.com, was registered on 2024-06-04 through GoDaddy with the owner's details withheld.[1] The archive first tried to capture it in July 2024; the first readable copy is from December.[2] Ten weeks after the registration the brand was in shops: the first Reddit post that names it is dated 2024-08-11, and by October a buyer in California wrote that “i've called every smoke shop in orange county for some reason nobody stocks opia's”.[3][4]
The site introduced the product as something new: “as a relatively new product in the kratom market 7 hydroxymitragynine is often misunderstood”. Its footer already carried a warning: “kratom may be addictive product not intended for daily use”.[5] By February 2025 it was a Shopify storefront under a banner reading “float away and find your inner calm”, with a cart, a product grid and a form for shops: “if you're interested in partnering with opia as a wholesale or distribution partner” reach out.[6] It described 7-OH as a plant product, “7 hydroxymitragynine is a potent natural alkaloid found in the kratom plant”, and sold it for calm, under a row of claims that read “promotes relaxation supports mental clarity convenient microdosing”.[6] The leaf does contain the alkaloid, but the forensic laboratory that tested an Opia card describes 7-OH as an alkaloid found in kratom “in smaller amounts” than mitragynine, and the products as “elevated or enhanced” in it.[7]

Figure 1. opiakratom.com on 2025-02-15, with its age gate hidden: 7-OH tablets and shots sold under a sky-and-clouds brand, and a link for wholesale buyers. [6]
No page we read names a company. The footer says only “2025 opia all rights reserved”, and the disclaimer says that a “manufacturer reseller assumes no liability for the misuse of this product”.[8] The cards are more specific. The back of a Kratom Extract card photographed by a buyer in September 2025 names at its foot a distributor, Opia Kratom of Memphis, Tennessee, ZIP code 38114, with the website beside it.[9] A NanoAlkaloids card from July 2026 gives the same line; one buyer who read it wrote that he had “never realized they were based in memphis”.[10] Neither card gives a street. A certificate of analysis that the brand linked from a 2026 card names a different company as the laboratory's client, Outpost Brands.[11] What the relation between Opia Kratom and Outpost Brands is, the documents we read do not say (see Still open).

Figure 2. The record in order. Each change of product follows a change of law by weeks. [1]
What they sell
7-OH tablets and shots, 2024 and 2025. Opia's first products were chewable tablets and liquid shots of 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), sold in two lines: 7-OH alone, and 7-OH with mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, which the brand spells Pseudo Indoxyl. The February 2025 storefront listed “chewable tablets 7 hydroxymitragynine”, “chewable tablets pseudo indoxyl 7 hydroxymitragynine” and “liquid shots pseudo indoxyl 7 hydroxymitragynine”.[6] The tablets came four to a card: “classic classic 80mg total 20mg per tablet serving size 1 2 tablet 10mg”. The shots were “liquid shots 7 hydroxymitragynine classic classic 30mg total 10mg per serving”.[6] The ingredient list on the Classic listing begins “ingredients 7 hydroxymitragynine microcrystallin cellulose” and goes on through tablet binders and colourant.[12] The same listing carried a shipping exclusion list that opens “this product is not available for shipment to the following states alabama arkansas indiana rhode island wisconsin”.[12]
Doses climbed. A 30 mg tablet followed in March 2025, and in July 2025 Opia Ultra, at 60 mg a tablet.[3] The Ultra card was the first a buyer noticed with an addiction warning on it: “there is now an addiction warning that says in all caps”, and “both the 20 mg and 30 mg packages contain no such warning” that the buyer knew of.[13] In 2026 the brand sold bottles, and 7-OH tablets labelled 100 mg, 130 mg and 300 mg.[3]

Figure 3. Opia Ultra, July 2025: the 60 mg tablet, the first card a buyer noticed with an addiction warning on the back. [13]
Mitragynine tablets for the states that banned 7-OH. On 2025-08-19 Florida's attorney general “issued emergency rule 2er25 2”, making 7-OH a Schedule I drug when “concentrated at a level above four hundred parts per million on a dry weight basis”; it superseded one issued a week earlier.[14] Our deep dive on the Florida and Utah rules has the history. Within ten days Opia had a Florida product on the shelf. A buyer who posted it on 2025-08-28 wrote “i have the labs too all mit”,[15] that is, mitragynine, the main alkaloid of the kratom leaf. Another titled his photograph “new florida legal opia tabs”.[16] The card keeps the name and the clouds and says Kratom Extract, 150 mg a tablet.

Figure 4. The Florida card, 2025-08-31. Same name, same clouds, a different drug: mitragynine, the main kratom alkaloid, not 7-OH. [16]
The back of the card, which a buyer posted under the title “back of the package opia kratom extract tablets”, tells two stories. Its blurb says the tablet combines kratom with 7-hydroxymitragynine and Pseudo Indoxyl; its facts panel gives 25 mg of mitragynine a serving and 7-OH and other alkaloids each under 1 per cent. It calls itself a dietary supplement.[9] Buyers who bought it for 7-OH were caught out. One wrote in February 2026 that “the shopkeeper placed the opia right in the middle of the 7oh”, and that only after paying did she read that “it said on the back mit 25mg 7oh 1” per cent.[17] Another, in April: “i think the opia isn't 7 it's just mit kratom extract”.[18] Later versions raised the dose to 240 mg a tablet, and a buyer noticed that “all products have a sticker over the original printed supplement facts”.[19]

Figure 5. The back of the same product, 2025-09-12. The blurb names 7-OH and pseudoindoxyl; the facts panel gives both as under 1 per cent. The only company on the card is a distributor in Memphis. [9]
The website changed at the same time. By 2025-09-06 the home page listed no products. What was left was a wholesale form, an age check with the line “must be 21 to purchase”, and a longer warning: “do not consume more than 1 serving every 48 hours”.[8] It looked the same in April 2026.

Figure 6. opiakratom.com on 2025-09-06. The products are gone from the page; what remains is the age check, the disclaimers and a wholesale form. [8]
Blends, 2026. In 2026 Opia sold tablets with names that do not say what is in them. A card sold as 120 mg Pseudo turned out, by the brand's own certificate, to be mostly mitragynine (see Lab results). NanoAlkaloids, on sale by July 2026 as kratom extract tablets, reached Reddit with the question “anyone try opia nanoalkaloids”. Its card carries a facts panel that lists mitragynine at 40 mg a serving, 7-OH at 200 parts per million on a dry weight basis, half the line in Florida's 2025 rule, and dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine at under 2 per cent.[10] Dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine is the compound sold as MGM-15, a semi-synthetic opioid made from a kratom alkaloid; our deep dive on what replaced 7-OH covers it. The DEA's temporary order made MGM-15 a Schedule I drug nationally: “this temporary order is effective august 26 2026 until august 26 2028”.[20]

Figure 7. NanoAlkaloids, July 2026. The facts panel lists dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine, the compound sold as MGM-15, which the DEA placed in Schedule I seven weeks later. [10]
Advanced Alkaloids, a 300 mg tablet, was sold online under the 7-OH name; a buyer who found it in July wrote that it “claims to be all 7oh”.[21] Some buyers received it as single packs, and one asked “are they those opia advanced alkaloid singles”. Those who read the single-pack label found more than 7-OH. One: “it says 40mg per 1 4 tablet of 7oh so 160mg of 7oh per tablet”, with extract blend “and 10mg of dihydro 7oh” in each quarter.[22] Another put the whole tablet at “160mg 7oh 40mgem and 100 mitragynine”, where mgem is the trade's spelling of MGM.[23] We found no photograph of that label, so the composition here is as buyers read it. This is the tablet that the web shop Kures gave away in July 2026 to buyers who signed its comment campaign against the 7-OH scheduling; a buyer asked “has anyone tried those free opia 300's from kures yet”.[23]

What buyers report
We searched the local Arctic Shift archive of the 7-OH, kratom and opioid subreddits for Opia on 2026-10-11. 1,802 posts name it between 2024-08-11 and 2026-10-06: 1,155 in r/7_hydroxymitragynine, 367 in r/7oh, 115 in r/QuittingKratom, 109 in r/7ohm and the rest in nine smaller subreddits. 160 are from 2024, 1,062 from 2025 and 580 from 2026. 556 have the brand in the title. We read about 100 threads with their comments, chosen for the brand's lab results, product changes, counterfeits and complaints.[3]
The table counts posts whose title or text contains the words in the first column. It is a search, not a reading, and a post can match several rows; it says what buyers talk about, not how often a thing happened.

The good reports are about strength at the shop counter. An early review was headed “surprisingly very impressed with” Opia;[24] The price was the shop's: a buyer who posted a wholesale sheet in April 2025 worked out that shops “buy for 18 sells for 39 45” a card.[25] In September 2026 a buyer reported that “7oh opia is advertised at my work cafeteria tv”,[26] and on 2026-10-01, a fortnight before the federal 7-OH order was due, another wrote that “my local smoke shop is still carrying them and offering bogo”.[27]
The withdrawal posts are the largest group after praise, and most are in r/QuittingKratom. One headline in April 2025: “21 days clean from 800mg daily 7oh chewable tablets”.[28] The mitragynine tablets appear there too. A buyer who moved to the Kratom Extract card from other products wrote in October 2025, “i need to stop as withdrawal affects have started to set it” in.[29]
Complaints about strength run alongside the praise: “opia has some super weak or they forgot the 7oh in a bunch of batches”, one buyer wrote in November 2025.[30] One adverse report stands out for the dose. In August 2026 a buyer who described himself as a casual user wrote “i just took a quarter of an opia 300mg tablet this is not normal” and described dizziness, blurred vision and nausea for hours.[31]
Lab results
What the brand publishes. Opia's cards carry a QR code, and some lead to a certificate. In July 2025 a page on the website carried a panel reading “certificate of analysis coa 30mg pseudo indoxyl 7 hydroxy shot coas click to view coa”.[32] Buyers find the codes unreliable. In September 2025 one wrote that “when i go to thier website it just goes to a blank page”.[33] The website's verification page is for shops only: “this verification is only for retailers wholesale”, and a buyer who wants to check a card is told “if you are a consumer and would like to verify your product please visit your opia retailer for authentication”.[34]

Figure 9. The verification page on 2025-05-17. Codes are printed on the display box, so only the shop can check one; buyers are told to ask the shop. [34]
What its own certificate shows. In June 2026 a buyer scanned a card sold as 120 mg Pseudo, a high-potency pseudoindoxyl tablet, and posted the certificate it led to. The laboratory is NN Analytics, the customer Outpost Brands, the sample a four-count card of 120 mg Pseudo Sour Strawberry tablets weighing 750 mg each, received on 2026-03-20. Per tablet it found 98.56 mg of mitragynine, 26.85 mg of mitragynine pseudoindoxyl and 7-OH below the limit of quantitation, 156.63 mg of alkaloids in all.[11] So the 120 mg on the card is the total alkaloid content, and the alkaloid in the name is about a fifth of it. A reader put it to the buyer: “you thought 120 pseudo because of the deceptive packaging”.[11]

Figure 10. The brand's own certificate for a card sold as 120 mg Pseudo, reached from its QR code in June 2026. Pseudoindoxyl 26.85 mg, mitragynine 98.56 mg. The customer named is Outpost Brands. Signatures cropped. [11]
A forensic test. The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education bought seven 7-OH products at retail and published the results in May 2026. Opia's Wild Berry Pseudo Indoxyl + 7-OH card, “opia wild berry 8 half tablet” servings, is the first tablet row: “advertised mg tablet 20 actual mg tablet 0 15 13 7 1 4”.[7] That is 0.15 mg of mitragynine, 13.7 mg of 7-OH and 1.4 mg of pseudoindoxyl, 15.1 mg of the two named alkaloids against 20 on the card, about three quarters. CFSRE adds that “testing for these two alkaloids is extremely limited”.[7] Our deep dive on 7-OH's successors reproduces the whole page and explains why acid and base handling can turn one of these alkaloids into another in a laboratory.

Figure 11. The forensic test purchase published by CFSRE in May 2026. Opia's Wild Berry card promises 20 mg a tablet; the laboratory measured 15.1 mg of the two alkaloids together. [7]
A community tester. TestMyKratom buys products, sends them to Anresco Laboratories in San Francisco, and posts the results; it asks readers to “please consider purchasing your products through the links on our website”, because “this is our only source of income”.[35] Its first Opia test, in October 2024, was of “one of the most highly requested products we've seen in a while”.[36] Its brand page, archived in December 2025, lists fifteen Opia products, and none matched its label. Of the first batch: “opia classic tablets contained 14 37mg of 7 hydroxy which was about 28 weaker than its 20mg claim”.[37] The February 2025 batch of the same tablets came closer, at 15 to 17 mg. The best result was the 30 mg Watermelon of April 2025, which “nearly backed up their 7 oh claim completely”, at 27.64 mg.[37] The worst was a shot: “opia classic 7 oh pseudo liquid shot contained 12 31mg of combined 7 hydroxy and pseudo which was about 59 weaker than its 30mg claim”.[37] Its Wild Berry result, “opia wild berry 7 oh pseudo tablets contained 15 50mg of combined 7 hydroxy and pseudo which was about 23 weaker than its 20mg claim”,[37] sits close to the forensic laboratory's figure for the same flavour.

Figure 12. A community tester's results page for the brand, 2025-12-07. Fifteen products, none at its label. [37]
The certificates behind those grades are Anresco's, issued to “testmykratom org 18117 biscayne blvd suite 4220 miami fl 33160” as the customer. The first, for “product name opia 7 oh tablet mintopia”, found 12.75 mg of 7-OH in a 20 mg tablet, and adds that “this result of this sample is confirmed with a retest”.[38] Every tablet it tested from the February 2025 batches also carried methanol, and one failed on it: the Sour Apple tablets got an F because “it tested positive for methanol at levels that anresco laboratories deemed too high”.[37] Methanol is a solvent; the limit Anresco applies is 3,000 parts per million, and the Mintopia tablet of 2024 held 2,790.[38]

Figure 13. The laboratory report behind one of those grades: a Mintopia tablet sold as 20 mg held 12.75 mg of 7-OH, and methanol at 2,790 ppm, under a 3,000 ppm limit. [38]
In March 2026 TestMyKratom tested the larger tablets: “opia 60mg raspberry peach 7 oh tablet potency claim 60mg per tablet lab result 42 54mg per tablet grade c”; “opia 150mg classic mit tablet potency claim 150mg per tablet lab result 51 54mg per tablet grade f”; “opia 150mg wild cherry mit tablet potency claim 150mg per tablet lab result 67 77mg per tablet grade f”.[39] A reader objected that the label's 150 mg is kratom extract, not mitragynine alone: “it says 37 5mg mitragynia speciosa and 25mg of mitragynine per tab”, a quarter tablet, which makes the mitragynine claim 100 mg a tablet.[39] Read that way, the tablets held about half and two thirds of their mitragynine.
Not every buyer trusts the tester. In 2024 one asked “isn't test my kratom the lab that tests degraded samples”,[4] and others suspect the reverse. Nothing we read shows a result altered; the certificates are Anresco's, and the forensic laboratory's figure for the Wild Berry tablets is close to TestMyKratom's.
This site's lab-results section holds no test of an Opia product.
Regulatory and legal
An FDA site search for Opia and opiakratom.com on 2026-10-11 returned no warning letter.[40]
Three laws bear on what Opia sold. Florida's rule of August 2025 is the reason for the mitragynine card.[14] Tennessee, where the labels say Opia is distributed from, banned kratom outright from July 2026: “it is an offense to knowingly manufacture deliver or sell kratom”, and “this act takes effect july 1 2026”.[41] The definition covers the extracts and the semi-synthetics too, including “any alkaloid or alkaloid derivative that has been created by chemical synthesis or biosynthetic means” from a kratom alkaloid.[41] The Memphis line was still on the NanoAlkaloids card photographed that same week.[10] Whether the company still operates from Tennessee is not in the record we read.

Figure 14. Tennessee's kratom law, in force from 2026-07-01, in the state where Opia's labels say it is distributed from. [41]
Nationally, the DEA's order put MGM-15 and pseudoindoxyl in Schedule I on 2026-08-26,[20] seven weeks after a buyer photographed an Opia card listing dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine.[10] On 2026-10-09 the DEA filed a temporary order placing 7-OH and pseudoindoxyl above a threshold in Schedule I, for publication on 2026-10-14.[42]
Allegations: who says what, why, and what we could check
That Opia tablets contain something the label does not name. Buyers have said it from 2025. “im starting to think opia might be adding extra stuff to their tabs that isnt listed”, one wrote in September 2025, because a card lasted longer than its tested dose would explain.[43] In 2026 the claim moved to the mitragynine tablets. One buyer wrote that “they're advertising them as regular mitragynine with basically zero 7 oh”, said the tablets felt like 7-OH, and said “i'm contacting a lawyer and getting these tablets lab tested”.[44] Another, who had used them in Florida: “these tablets for sure have some other alkaloid in them”.[45] None of these buyers posted a test.
What we could check: no independent test we found reports an undisclosed alkaloid. A reader summed up the tester's record in April 2026: “tmk has no reported any mgm 15 being laced in to it without disclosure so far”.[46] TestMyKratom's 2026 results for the mitragynine tablets measured mitragynine and found less than the label.[39] But the brand did put MGM-15 on a label, in plain text, on the NanoAlkaloids card.[10] A buyer of a kratom extract tablet who did not read the facts panel would not know.
That counterfeit Opia is sold in shops. Thirty-nine posts mention a fake. In October 2025 a buyer opened a pseudoindoxyl card and found that “none of them even had the” Opia name pressed into the tablet, “but the packaging was exactly the same”.[47] In February 2026 another compared a card from a smoke shop with one from an online retailer and asked readers to “notice how the marketing slogan that says” feel lighter was missing from the second.[48] Opia's verification codes are printed on the shop's display box, not the card, and the brand tells buyers to ask the shop.[34] No buyer posted a test of a card they believed was fake.
That Opia is another brand's tablet in a new card. In October 2024 a buyer wrote that a mint Opia tablet was “literally vii mini mints marked up 300” per cent, VII being another 7-OH brand; another replied that “they aren't the same not in size stamp or flavor exactly”.[49] Photographs of loose tablets cannot settle it, and no document we found names the factory that presses either.
If you bought an Opia product and had it tested, or received one you believe was counterfeit, rate it below or comment on the thread at the foot of this page.
Still open
Who Opia is. The labels name Opia Kratom of Memphis, with no street; the brand's own certificate names Outpost Brands as the laboratory's client; the domain record withholds the registrant. Tennessee's and Florida's business registries are the next places to search, under both names, and the barcode prefix on the cards would name the company that licensed it.
What is in the Advanced Alkaloids tablet. Two buyers read its label as 7-OH, mitragynine and dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine; nobody posted the label or a test.
Whether Opia still sells 7-OH after the federal order takes effect on 2026-10-14.
