Our note: An import measure aimed at supplements, not a ban on possession or sale. Kratom and mitragynine are not listed in the federal schedules; DEA withdrew its 2016 notice to schedule them.

The regulation text as posted (tracking number PR2025-018) does not state its effective date.
Mitragyna speciosa (kratom), including its leaves, stem and any extracts
The controlled substances listed in this regulation are included by whatever official, common, usual, chemical, or trade name designation in schedule I
Our note: The act lists mitragynine, kratom's main alkaloid, in Schedule I. It does not name the leaf; this line does not decide how a leaf product is charged.
