Aporphines

Aporphines are the tetracyclic isoquinoline alkaloids of the poppy family and its relatives; glaucine, from yellow horned poppy and Glaucium species, is the one that reaches this site. It was marketed in Bulgaria and the USSR as a non-opioid cough suppressant, and it is a dopamine D1 and D2 antagonist, a PDE4 inhibitor and a weak calcium-channel blocker, which together give sedation, a flat affect and, at higher amounts, nausea and a drop in blood pressure. It is not an opioid and does not touch the opioid receptors.

In 2025 and 2026 it appeared in gray-market syrups styled as lean, often beside 7-OH, with no dose on the bottle and the antitussive literature as the only human data. Case reports describe hallucinations and dysphoria at recreational amounts. The combination with an opioid adds sedation to respiratory depression without adding analgesia, which is the wrong trade.
