The long read
Who they say they are, and what the record says
Advanced Mycology began as a mushroom grow-bag company. Its own PLÜR page says the founders sold grow bags "before we formed advanced mycology in 2021", and the same page carries a "deeper explanation from our cofounder judd".[1] The domain advancedmyco.com was registered on 2021-10-22.[2] The Wayback Machine's first capture of this operation's site is dated 2021-11-25; an earlier 2013 capture belongs to a previous owner of the name.[3]
The company trades under four names. Shrüm is the grow bags and liquid culture. XÜM is the tryptamine line. PLÜR is the 5-MAPB line. Advanced Mycology is the company on every lab certificate, which name the client as "client advanced mycology".[4] Its second storefront, xumtrip.com, was registered on 2025-04-10[5] and carried XÜM products from at least January 2026.[6] Its contact page sends buyers to "support advancedmyco com".[7] Avens, the other co-founder, posts on Reddit as u/avobrien and signed a May 2026 post as being from Advanced Myco.[8] This page treats the four names as one operation.
The active compounds come from a second company. In a Reddit comment on 2026-05-05, u/avobrien wrote: “Voyager Labs produces 4-ho-met and 5MAPB in the US. I work for both Voyager Labs and Advanced Mycology.”[8] The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on 2026-04-12 that co-founder Judd Weiss “makes and sells unscheduled hallucinogens through his company voyager labs”.[9] The xumtrip.com FAQ says “our metocin is manufactured in the us”.[10]
Neither storefront names a legal entity, a state or a street address. The advancedmyco.com terms say the agreement is “subject to prevailing law of netherlands” and that “our terms and conditions were created with the help of the terms and conditions template”.[11] Every archived page of xumtrip.com ends “contact info 41 avada avenue florida 98765”[12], which is placeholder text from the site's WordPress theme. The same theme's demo copy fills the About page: “avada vape your one stop shop for all your vaping needs”.[13] The registry records for both domains publish the registrar, GoDaddy, and no registrant.[2] The FAQ says “our shipping label says in small print that it is from” AMC, the company's initials.[14]
The company is named in one federal case, as a licensee and not as a party. Mike Tyson's 2026 amended complaint against former Tyson 2.0 executives says “Advanced Mycology entered into a partnership with Tyson 2.0 to sell at home grow kits called Mikeadelics”.[15] The “Mikeadelics Tyson V3 heavyweight mushroom grow bag” is still on the catalogue.[16]
Three lookalike storefronts have taken buyers' money under the XÜM name: xumbeyongshrooms.com, reported on 2026-03-30, another reported on 2026-06-06, and xumplure.com, reported on 2026-08-17. Of the first, u/juddweiss wrote “This is a scam site, this is not us.”[17] None of these domains is linked here.
What they sell
Nothing in the XÜM or PLÜR lines contains a mushroom. The company says so in its own footer: “advanced mycology products do not contain mushrooms or any banned substances”.[18] What it sells is synthetic tryptamines and a synthetic benzofuran, under a mycology name and dosed in mushroom terms. The XÜM page says “each XUM chewable tablet is roughly equivalent to a half gram of shrooms”.[19] Of the Transcend soft gel it says “this single soft gel contains 21mg of metocin 4-HO-MET equal to 7 XUM tablets approximately equivalent to eating 4 grams of shrooms”.[20] The home page headline is “XUM Beyond Shrooms: ultra premium metocin 4-HO-MET chewable tablets”.[18] A reader who bought a XÜM product is holding 4-HO-MET or 4-HO-MiPT, and the pages to read are those, not psilocybin.
4-HO-MET, sold as metocin. XÜM tablets: “each XUM tablet contains 3 mg of 99% pure metocin benzoate”, “which contains approximately 2mg of metocin freebase”.[19] The Transcend soft gel and the 10-gel Ceremony Pack: “each vegan soft gel contains 21mg of high purity metocin 4-HO-MET”.[21] The earliest Reddit post naming the tablets is dated 2025-04-29: “So these are 4-Ho-Met (pictured)”.[22] On 2026-05-01 u/avobrien wrote “One year ago today we began shipping” XÜM.[8]
4-HO-MiPT, sold as miprocin. XÜM DEEP, from August 2026. Tablets: “each tablet contains 3mg of miprocin 4-HO-MiPT”.[23] Soft gel: “21mg of miprocin 4-HO-MiPT equal to 7 XUM DEEP tablets”.[24]
N,N-MET. XÜM SPIRIT, a vape pen, from August 2026, holding “500 milligrams N,N-MET base tryptamine MET”. The page warns that MET here is a different compound: “this is not metocin”.[25] N-methyl-N-ethyltryptamine has no page on this site.
5-MAPB. PLÜR tablets, now discontinued: “each tablet contains 25mg of 5MAPB an unscheduled empathogen similar in experience to MDMA”.[1] Booster and Festival Packs: “each booster soft gel contains 25mg of 5MAPB”.[26] Immerse and Cuddle Puddle Packs: “each soft gel is 100mg 5MAPB”.[27] PLÜR SHOT: “each PLUR shot is a single 1oz shot containing 100mg of high purity 5MAPB”.[28]
5-MAPB with 4-HO-MET. The FLIP soft gel and the 10-gel Hippie Pack: “each soft gel is 100mg 5MAPB 12mg metocin”, stated as “active compound 80mg 5MAPB freebase 9mg metocin freebase”.[29]
The labels give the compound and the amount, as salt and as base. That is more than most products in this market print, and it is why the certificates below can be checked against them.
What buyers report
Almost all public discussion of the brand is in one subreddit, r/mysterymagicmushrooms. Every post there from 2025-01-02 to 2026-10-05 was pulled through the Arctic Shift archive on 2026-10-05: 8,002 posts, of which 2,236 name XÜM, PLÜR, Shrüm or Advanced Mycology in the title or body.[30] Monthly mentions rose from 3 in April 2025 to 371 in September 2026. A keyword pass flagged posts about delivery, refunds, service, contamination, defects and weak effects; the 76 posts flagged for delivery, refunds, service or contamination were read in full, and the defect and weak-effect flags by title. Most of the 2,236 are trip reports and dosing questions that say nothing about the seller. Comments were read only in the threads cited here. The research file holds every permalink.
The subreddit has a financial relationship with the company, disclosed on both sides. In August 2025 u/juddweiss announced a “permanent 20% off code for this MMM subreddit”.[31] In February 2026 he proposed that “we would like to give 10% of each sale directly to the moderators of this MMM subreddit” and wrote that one moderator had refused: “He was worried about the optics.”[32] In April 2026 a moderator posted the code with the words “This sponsorship is exactly what allows us to fund our independent lab tests and keep our website running.” and added that “this is a sponsorship, not a 'paid review.'”[33] The moderators' lab tests are of other brands. A buyer asked the question outright in August 2026: “I used to think this sub was probably astroturfing for” the brand.[34] The counts below come from that subreddit and should be read with that in mind.
Orders late or missing: 5 threads. One, from 2026-02-20, describes a package marked delivered: “there was nothing there when I went to grab it”.[35] The other four describe a USPS delay, a payment marked expired, a missing confirmation email, and a paid priority order sent ground. u/avobrien replied in the four from 2026 and in two of them reported the order had shipped.
XÜM SPIRIT pens empty or leaking: 16 threads, 2026-08-21 to 2026-10-02. “There is like nothing in it”, wrote one buyer on 2026-09-14.[36] Another, on 2026-10-02: “it has leaked down to the point that all that is remaining is the small amount of liquid that was pooled in the heating element itself”.[37] The company agreed with them. On 2026-08-23 it posted “We will be replacing every single one of the beta tester first batch vape pens free of charge”.[38] On 2026-09-18 u/juddweiss called the launch a failure and wrote that “the pens are too fragile with our mixture, and will not survive shipping in heat”. By then “1000 beta vape pens have been filled and shipped to customers”.[39]
Weak or no effect: 9 threads, for example “4 tabs. No effects.”, on 2026-02-05.[40] None of the nine reports a test of the product.
Contamination: 1 thread. A buyer reported a urine screen positive for fentanyl after PLÜR and added that their doctor said “MDMA metabolites can sometimes show false positives for fentanyl”. u/avobrien replied that “the only things produced in the lab are 5-MAPB, Metocin, Miprocin & MET”.[41] The product was not tested.
Tamper seal broken: 2 threads, one buyer, from a reseller: “the seal on my tabs was torn”. u/avobrien replied “This does appear to be an issue at the reseller level” and the company replaced the order.[42]
Store credit not received: 5 threads, all after the SPIRIT resolution. “I haven't gotten an email about store credit”, wrote one buyer on 2026-09-20; u/avobrien answered that “There are two people answering customer service emails”.[43]
Service praised as the subject of the post: 5 threads. Praise inside trip reports was not counted.
Lab results
The company publishes certificates from Tryptomics, of Longmont, Colorado. Twelve for finished products are archived, dated from August 2025 to August 2026. Each says “Tryptomics is not licensed by the state of Colorado”.[4] One raw-material report from Kykeon Analytics in Spain gives the 4-HO-MET benzoate as “4-HO-MET metocin benzoate 99%”.[44]

Every certificate finds the compound the label names. The amounts run from 72% of the label figure (the Transcend gels, against 21 mg) to 120% (the Booster gel, against 25 mg). The certificates do not say whether they report salt or base, and the labels give both, so some of that spread is the difference between the two.
Three certificates find a second compound that is not on the label. The 260612 Transcend gel's row reads “5-MAPB 0.177 0.177”.[49] The 260112 PLÜR tablets' row reads “4-hydroxy methylethyltryptamine 4-HO-MET 0.400 0.040”.[50] The PLÜR SHOT's reads “4-hydroxy methylethyltryptamine 4-HO-MET 0.107 0.107”.[52] These are traces, a fraction of a milligram, of the company's other product line. They were found by the company's own lab and published by the company.
No certificate was found for XÜM SPIRIT (N,N-MET) or XÜM DEEP (4-HO-MiPT), on either site, in their archived copies, or on Reddit. No certificate tests for residual solvents or heavy metals. A buyer who asked was told “at this time we don't have any additional solvent or heavy metal testing information to provide”.[56] No independent test of these products by anyone else was found, and this site's lab-results section holds none.
Marketing
The home page lists PLÜR as “superior for 7 reasons: cleaner, clearer, safer, consistent, high purity, mild comedown, less neurotoxic, not federally scheduled or banned”.[18] XÜM is “similar in experience to psilocybin but superior to psilocybin for several reasons”.[19] The PLÜR page says “tryptamines like metocin are physiologically safe at extreme doses”.[1] xumtrip.com calls the range “clean, safe, legal, pure”.[12] None of these pages cites a study.
The same pages carry harm-reduction warnings that are unusual for the market. The PLÜR page says “do not consume more than once a month” and “if we hear of a single hospitalization we may shut this down”.[1]
Regulatory and legal
An FDA site search for the name Advanced Mycology on 2026-10-05 returned no warning letter or other action.[57] A CourtListener search of federal dockets the same day returned one case, Tyson v. Bronstein, where the company is named as a licensee and not as a party.[58] Searches for Xumtrip and for XUM metocin returned nothing.
The legal statement on xumtrip.com is one line: “metocin is not federally scheduled nor banned”.[59] u/juddweiss has said “We ship to all 50 states”.[60] The sites do not mention state law. They do not mention the Federal Analogue Act. The Inquirer's article notes that “Congress passed the 1986 Federal Analogue Act” against designer copies of controlled drugs, and reports that “Weiss said the Federal Analogue Act was” effectively dead. The same article describes XÜM as the exception in its sample: “his packaging clearly states his product contains the” unscheduled psychedelic metocin.[9]
Refunds
The FAQ says “we do not offer refunds however we will happily replace a problem product if the fault was ours”.[61] For the failed SPIRIT pens, buyers whose order had not shipped were offered “A full refund of what you spent on the pen(s)”. Those whose pen had arrived were not: “All purchases that already received a SPIRIT Beta Pen will automatically receive a 1 time credit in our store for the full amount you spent on the pen(s) + 20%”.[39] A company email quoted on 2026-10-05 repeats it: “We will apply a credit to your account for what you paid for your pen(s) plus 20% additional”.[62]
What we could not find
No age gate and no age statement appear in the archived HTML of the home or product pages of either storefront. The advancedmyco.com privacy policy mentions only children under 13. Packaging was not seen.
No business registration was found, because OpenCorporates refused the search without an API key. State attorney-general press rooms were not searched one by one. Instagram, TikTok and Discord need a login and were not checked. A DoubleBlind article on 5-MAPB from September 2026 would not load from this server. The first XÜM certificate, for batch 250424, is linked from the site but its archived copy returns 404.
