Iboga Alkaloids
Indole alkaloids of the iboga type — ibogaine, its long-lived active metabolite noribogaine, the related tabernanthine and voacangine, and the synthetic analogue 18-methoxycoronaridine. Ibogaine has no single receptor to name: it acts at NMDA, κ-opioid, sigma and nicotinic sites and on serotonin transport at once, which is why it sits in Atypical rather than under any of them. What varies inside the family is precisely that promiscuity — 18-MC was designed to keep the anti-addictive effect while dropping the cardiac liability, so nothing established about one member should be read onto another.
The class-level fact is cardiac. Ibogaine blocks the hERG potassium channel, prolongs the QT interval and has killed people through arrhythmia; noribogaine persists long after the experience ends, so the window in which that can happen outlasts the session. Concurrent opioids, low potassium and existing conduction problems all worsen it.
