The long read
Who they are, and what the record says
Panther Sports Nutrition was an online supplement store run from Garfield, New Jersey. Its contact page in 2015 gave no street address, only "GARFIELD, NJ 07026" and an email address.[1] Its About page said the store was "founded to bring you some of the best products on the market at low prices".[2] The labels it sold under printed the same town.[3]
The record has no company behind the name. A search of New Jersey's business register for "Panther Sports", "Panther Nutrition", "Panther Sport Nutrition" and "Panther Supplements" found no entity of that name.[4] When IronMag Labs sued in November 2016, its report to the trademark office described the defendant as an entity of unknown form, and also sued an individual.[5] The FDA addressed its 2017 letter to that individual at Panther Sports Nutrition, at an address in Garfield.[6] The same person filed the store's two trademark applications in 2016, from a mailing address in Saddle Brook, New Jersey.[7]
panthersportsnutrition.com was first archived in August 2014, as a page whose only text was "msten prohormone eca stack ephedra fatburner".[8] It ran on a hosted store builder until 2016 and on Shopify from 2017.[2][9] It was last archived as a locked page in June 2021, saying "Rebuilding site. Will be open back soon".[10] The domain is not registered today.[11]
What it sold
2015: fat burners. In October 2015 the home page sold "2 Bottles Of ECA Stack", a carb blocker and a fat burner called Cardio Burn.[12] The ECA Stack page carried the keywords "eca stack, ephedra, ephedrine, thermogenic" and the line "Extreme Energy Mental Alertness Burn fat fast".[13] No ingredient list for it survives in the archive, so the dossier does not say what was in it.
2016: SARMs and steroids, as dietary supplements. By mid 2016 the men's section listed SARMs and steroid products next to the fat burners. Each was a capsule bottle labelled "dietary supplement" with a Supplement Facts panel.[6][3]
- Ostarine. The July 2016 page said ostarine "causes steroid-like muscle growth without side effects", and called it "a fantastic side effect free tool".[14]
- LGD MAX, a bottle of LGD-4033. Its page opened: "LGD has shown the most ability of any SARM to put on size".[15]
- Andarine S4. Its page said andarine's "properties are very alike with steroids Anavar and Winstrol".[16]
- MSTEN, whose page keywords were "msten, sdrol, hdrol, mdrol, superdrol".[17] Its label names one compound, by chemistry only.[18]
- Trenadrol, with the keywords "tren, trenbolone, oral tren".[19] No label or ingredient list was archived.
- Super DMZ MAX, sold "For Size and Strength", with the keywords "sdrol, superdro, dmz, dymethazine".[20]

The store's banner sold the line as "Guaranteed Muscle in 30 Days", with M-Sten among the three bottles shown, labelled a dietary supplement.[21]

Figure 4. The store's banner, archived January 2018: "Guaranteed muscle in 30 days", with M-Sten, a steroid sold under a chemical name, labelled a dietary supplement. [21]
Super DMZ MAX and IronMag Labs
Super DMZ was the name of IronMag Labs' dimethazine products, sold from 2010; the IronMag dossier tells that history and the designer steroids deep dive explains the compounds. IronMag registered SUPER DMZ as a trademark, number 4,738,017, in May 2015.[5]
Panther's page for Super DMZ MAX was archived in March 2016.[20] In November 2016 the applicant filed for two trademarks: SUPER DMZ 5.0 and SUPER-DMZ MAX.[22][7] The SUPER-DMZ MAX application came with a specimen, an advertisement of two bottles labelled "dietary supplement".[23]

Figure 5. The specimen filed with the SUPER-DMZ MAX application in November 2016: the product as it was advertised, a "dietary supplement" with IronMag's product name on it. [23]
The same month IronMag sued in the federal court in Los Angeles, case 2:16-cv-08771. The court's report to the trademark office, filed on 23 November 2016, lists one trademark in the case, IronMag's SUPER DMZ registration. It names Panther Sports Nutrition and the individual as defendants.[5] That report is the only document from the case we could read, and its box for a decision or judgment is blank.
The trademark office reached its own view without the court. In February 2017 the examiner wrote: "Registration of the applied-for mark is refused because of a likelihood of confusion with the mark in U.S. Registration No. 4738017".[24] The examiner defined DMZ as dimethazine by its chemical name and concluded that "both marks leave consumers with high quality dimethazine".[24] Neither application was answered. Both were recorded in August 2017 as "Abandoned because the applicant failed to respond or filed a late response to an Office action".[7][22]

Figure 6. February 2017, the trademark examiner refuses SUPER-DMZ MAX. Three excerpts from one letter. The examiner read "DMZ" as the steroid dimethazine. [24]
The product stayed on sale. In October 2017 the Shopify store sold "DMZ Max (Super DMZ ) 24mg 60Ct".[25] The bottle now read DMZ MAX. It was still labelled "dietary supplement", with two compounds listed by chemical name on the Supplement Facts panel. The second is the chemical name the trademark examiner gave for dimethazine.[26][24] In May 2021 the listing was called "DM Max", and its description still read "Super DMZ MAX 60ct".[27]

Figure 7. October 2017. After the trademark refusal the bottle reads "DMZ MAX", still a dietary supplement, its two steroids listed by chemistry. [26]
The FDA letter, 2017
On 23 October 2017 the FDA wrote to Panther Sports Nutrition about two products, Ostarine MK2866 and LGD MAX. Their distribution, it said, "violates the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act".[6] The letter cites the store's own pages: "Your website, where you take orders for Ostarine MK2866 and LGD Max", and the label claim "Physique Enhancing Agent".[6]
The products were "labeled as dietary supplements; however, these products do not meet the definition of a dietary supplement".[6] Both compounds had been studied as new drugs first, and "neither ostarine nor LGD-4033 were marketed as a dietary supplement or as a food until after they were authorized for investigation as a new drug".[6] So the FDA treated them as unapproved new drugs, and as prescription drugs sold without adequate directions for use.
On safety the letter says: "Life threatening reactions, including liver toxicity, have occurred in people taking products containing SARMs." It adds: "SARMs also have the potential to increase the risk of heart attack and stroke."[6] It asked for a reply "Within fifteen working days of receipt of this letter".[6] We found no close-out letter and no later FDA action under the name.[28]

Figure 8. The FDA's letter of 23 October 2017, heading and opening paragraph. The recipient's name and home address are cropped out here; they are on the FDA's page. [6]
On 31 October the FDA announced that it had "recently issued warning letters to Infantry Labs, LLC, IronMagLabs and Panther Sports Nutrition for distributing products that contain SARMs".[29] IronMag's letter, about its ostarine product Super DMZ 4.0, is in the IronMag dossier.

Figure 9. Eight days later, the FDA's public statement named the store alongside IronMag Labs and Infantry Labs. [29]
After the letter: new names, a new disclaimer
The store did not drop the products the FDA named. Its May 2018 home page listed "OSTAR 25MG 90CT", "LG MAX 10MG 90CT" and "GW (Car)15MG 90CT" among its best sellers.[30]
The labels changed. The ostarine and LGD-4033 bottles archived in September 2018 replace "dietary supplement" on the front with "performance supplements". On the side panel they now say "not for human consumption research chemical". The Supplement Facts panel stayed, with a suggested use of one capsule a day, and LG MAX kept "Physique Enhancing Agent", the label claim the FDA had quoted.[31][32][6]

Figure 10. The ostarine product after the letter, archived September 2018. "Dietary supplement" is gone, "research chemical" is on the side, and the Supplement Facts panel and daily dose stayed. [31]

Figure 11. LGD MAX became LG MAX, archived September 2018. The FDA had quoted "Physique Enhancing Agent" from the old label; the new one keeps it. [32]
By October 2020 the product pages carried a block of capitals: "THIS PRODUCT IS INTENDED FOR LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY AND IS NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION", and "THIS IS NOT A DIETARY SUPPLEMENT".[33] The catalogue that month listed "Ostar Limited quantity left" and "Rad-140".[34] In May 2021 the LGD-4033 product was listed as "LGD MAX 10MG 90CT".[35] The deep dive on "not for human consumption" covers how that phrase is used.

Epistane. A new steroid product appears in the archive in 2018: a bottle labelled "Epistane", "size and strength gain", "performance supplements".[36] Its panel lists epistane as 2a,3a-epithio-17a-methyl-5a-androstan-17b-ol. The Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2014 added a list of compounds to the federal definition of an anabolic steroid, and item (lx) on that list is "2a,3a-epithio-17a-methyl-5a-androstan-17b-ol".[37] The store listed the product as "Epistane 20mg 90CT" in May 2021, marked sold out.[38] Nobody tested it that we know of. What the bottle contained is not in the record; what the label says is.

Figure 13. Epistane, archived September 2018. The chemical name on the panel is item (lx) of the list the 2014 designer steroid law added to the federal definition of anabolic steroids. [36]
The store was locked a month later.

What buyers report
Nothing we could find. A search of the Reddit archive for "panther sports nutrition" returned no posts, and a sample of 100 recent posts in r/sarms had no mention of the brand.[39] The store's own pages carried no reviews in the archived copies.
Lab results
The store published none that the archive kept. Among the roughly 160 archived addresses on the domain there is no certificate, lab or test page.[40] We found no test of any Panther product by a laboratory, a regulator or a buyer.
Regulatory and legal
- FDA warning letter, MARCS-CMS 535341, 23 October 2017, over Ostarine MK2866 and LGD MAX, as unapproved new drugs and misbranded drugs.[6] Named in the FDA's In Brief of 31 October 2017.[29]
- IronMag Labs v. Panther Sports Nutrition, C.D. Cal. 2:16-cv-08771, filed November 2016 over the SUPER DMZ trademark.[5] Outcome not found.
- Trademark applications SUPER DMZ 5.0 (serial 87237725) and SUPER-DMZ MAX (serial 87238294), filed November 2016; SUPER-DMZ MAX refused for likelihood of confusion with SUPER DMZ; both abandoned in August 2017.[24][7][22]

Still open
- How the IronMag suit ended. The only filing read is the court's November 2016 report to the trademark office, which records the start of the case and nothing after it.[5] The store sold the product as DMZ Max and DM Max through 2021.[25][27]
- Who stands behind the name. No New Jersey entity under the name was found.[4]
- What was in the bottles. No laboratory result for any product was found.
- Where the owner went next. No successor store under the same name or address was found in the archive; the domain lapsed.[11]
