Kanna21: a hemp wholesaler that became a 7-OH tablet supplier, then Alteraex, and a defendant in the PURE7 fight
kanna21.comscored on 7 of 12 criteria · 5 could not be told
Be the first. The form below takes about twenty seconds and needs no account.
The two grades are never combined. Ours is what the record shows; theirs is what people who dealt with this entity say.
-
Is there an identifiable legal operator: a registered name, a jurisdiction, an address that resolves?
the site gave an address and phone but no legal entity; a Texas LLC under a new name, linked to the site by the brand name and the Sunflower page, not by a document that names both
-
Where there are results, do they agree with the label, the marketing and the reported effects?
one certificate's result (30.57 mg) matches the 30 mg in its sample name; no label of a Kanna21 product was found to compare
Evidence: [16]
-
Are contents and amounts stated on the product?
no Kanna21 label was found; its 7-OH reaches buyers under other brands' names
-
Pattern of complaints about orders not arriving, long delays, no tracking?
a wholesaler; no buyer report of a Kanna21 order was found
-
Pattern of complaints about wrong, inert, contaminated or mislabelled product?
no report about the quality of its product under its own name
Evidence: [14]
-
Chargebacks refused, refunds unanswered, processors dropped?

The long read
Kanna21 is not a kanna company. The name suggests Sceletium tortuosum, the South African plant sold as kanna, but nothing in the record shows the business selling it. From 2021 to early 2024 Kanna21 was a wholesale brand for hemp-derived intoxicants. By 2023 a Texas company of that name was supplying 7-OH, the oxidised kratom alkaloid, to be pressed into tablets that other brands sell. Since July 2025 that company, renamed Alteraex, LLC, has been a defendant in a federal case over who owns the PURE7 tablet brand. Our Kures dossier is where it first came up.

Figure 1. Five years in one line, each row dated to its source. Drawn by us. [1]
Who they say they are, and what the record says
The website, 2021 to 2024. kanna21.com was first archived on 9 July 2021.[1] It described the business in one sentence that stayed on every page for three years: "kanna21 k21 is a botanical extraction company utilizing an organic hydrocarbon process".[2] The footer gave "address 1331 red cedar circle fort collins co 80524" and a Colorado phone number.[2] That address is a condominium office building shared by many registered companies. Colorado's business register lists none called Kanna21. The site never named a legal entity. Its About page said: "we do not sell directly to the public".[3]

Figure 2. July 2021, the first archived capture: a Delta-8 wholesaler with a menu built around becoming a stockist. [2]

Figure 3. October 2021: the About page. A botanical extraction company, it says, that does not sell directly to the public. [3]
Sunflower. In 2022 the site added a white-label line called Sunflower, "sunflower lab direct cannabinoids white label", with a contact to "call or text 713 206 6675", a Houston number.[4] The name matters later. The arbitrator in the PURE7 dispute recorded that "kana21 is also owned by sunflower wellness llc".[5] Texas lists Sunflower Wellness, Inc. in Austin, chartered on 30 June 2023.[6] The order says LLC and the register says Inc.; we have not established that they are one company.

Figure 4. June 2022: the Sunflower white-label line on the Kanna21 site. Its contact number had a Houston area code. The arbitrator later found Kanna21 to be owned by a company called Sunflower Wellness. [4]
The Texas company. The federal complaint calls the defendant "Alteraex, LLC (f/k/a Kanna21, LLC)", a Texas company with its principal place of business in Houston.[5] The Texas Comptroller lists the "taxpayer name alteraex llc" in Katy, near Houston, with "sos charter date 2023 01 01".[7] That fits the arbitrator's finding that "kanna21 was formed in 2023 as a supplier of herbal supplements" containing 7-OH.[5] The complaint names a third defendant, Pure Balance Ventures, LLC, doing business as Pure7. Texas lists it in Houston, chartered on 30 May 2025.[8]
So there are two records. One is a Colorado-addressed hemp website from 2021. The other is a Texas LLC formed in 2023 that sells 7-OH. They share the name, and the website's Sunflower line points to Houston. No document we found names both. The dossier treats them as one business because both carry the same brand, and says so here.
The website's end. In February 2024 the site still carried its brand menu. It also carried pages like "legend of zelda a link to the past the gba", posted "by mktagency jan 2 2023 gba roms".[9] By April 2024 the domain held casino and betting pages in several languages. From May 2024 it showed only a parking page, and the last capture is from August 2024.[1] The domain is no longer registered.

Figure 5. February 2024: under the site's own menu, a page about a Game Boy Advance game. By April the domain carried casino pages; it is now unregistered. [9]
What it sells
Hemp intoxicants, 2021 to early 2024. The first home page sold "ultra premium delta 8 d8 vapes concentrates gummies" to stockists, with "low minimums start with as low as 10 units per product".[2][10] In 2022 it offered private label: "private labeling simply means that we put your brand on our products".[11] By October 2023 the home page listed seven brands:[12]
- Glazed, HHC disposable vapes: "glazed compliant mood elevating properties get hhc get glazed".
- Kanna21, its own THC-O line: "thc o is the most psychoactive economical cannabinoid available for vapes cartridges and gummies".
- Patriot CBD, for police, soldiers and public employees: "all of the amazing benefits of cbd without the risk of testing positive for thc".
- Native Earth: "native earth anti covid cbda and cbga capsules available now".
- Sumatra, Kannafire and Sunflower, all marked coming soon.

Figure 6. October 2023: seven brands, five of them marked coming soon. Native Earth's capsules were sold as "anti-covid". [12]
The Sunflower page sold "bulk raw cannabinoids thc o hhc hhc o cbn thc v and custom blends".[4] In February 2024 the menu had narrowed to "our brands glazed moon myco sun silo". It added mushroom products such as "sun silo calming mood enhancing blue raspberry gummies", and the page does not list what is in them.[13]

Figure 7. February 2024, the last months of the hemp site: mushrooms added to the menu. [13]
7-OH, from 2023. None of the archived pages mentions kratom or 7-OH. That business shows up in the court record. The complaint calls Kanna21 "a wholesale supplier of 7oh". It says Kanna21 supplied "active 7oh ingredients to an independent third party manufacturer who would" press the tablets, "in the same manner that kanna21 supplies its other customers".[5] The arbitrator found that Kanna21 "processes or forms the 70h into tablets that are sold to retail customers".[5] According to the order, the principal owner kept the new retail venture quiet because of "concerns that kana21's retail customers may react negatively" to a supplier competing with them. The order also found that "life root was capitalized through 2 million in product from kana21".[5]
Kanna21 does not appear to sell under its own name to the public. Its tablets reach buyers as other brands, and the record does not show which ones. Buyers have guessed. In September 2024 a commenter wrote: "i think the current wg 74 76 and kd 85 comes from kanna21". A buyer who tried to buy wholesale wrote that "kanna21 wasn't interested in talking to me".[14] Neither post offers a document.
What buyers report
On 2026-10-12 we searched the posts in our local archive of 37 subreddits (710,440 posts, mostly from 2024 to October 2026) for "Kanna21" and "Alteraex". Two posts name Kanna21 and none names Alteraex. A third thread, found while researching another dossier, names it in the comments. None is a review of an order, because Kanna21 does not sell to consumers. The three threads are the supplier guess above, a certificate (next section), and a January 2026 post about the PURE7 dispute.
In that post, a buyer of a smoke-shop brand called 7Pure said its tablet certificate read "submitted by kanna21 llc". They called the company "a reputable 7oh supplier" and added that the brand's owners "apparently started pure7 with someone else".[15] The photos were linked rather than posted, and we have not seen them. Neither the complaint nor the arbitrator's order mentions 7Pure. Nothing in this dossier ties Kanna21 to 7Pure beyond that one post.
Lab results
The archived kanna21.com never had a certificate page. The site index has no URL for one.[1]
In July 2025 a buyer looked into the certificates of LMTLSS, a small 7-OH brand. The fifth image in their post was "sdpharm lab we know how they do for kanna21 tabs".[16] It is a PharmLabs San Diego certificate, sample "30mg 7OH Tablets", tested for Kanna21, LLC on 6 May 2025. It reports 30.57 mg of 7-OH per tablet, or 55.59 mg per gram. The buyer's point was about the brand that posted it: that brand had shown another company's test as its own. For Kanna21, the certificate shows a 30 mg tablet that was tested and came in at 30.57 mg. We have no label to compare it with.

Figure 8. May 2025: a certificate for 30 mg 7-OH tablets tested for Kanna21, LLC, as a buyer found it posted on another brand's site. The tablet held 30.57 mg. [16]
Allegations: who says what, why, and what we could check
The complaint is the plaintiff's account. The defendants have answered and appeared, and the court has not decided who owns PURE7.
- The plaintiff, Life Root, LLC, sells PURE7 7-OH tablets. It says the brand was its founder's. It says Kanna21 supplied the 7-OH and later tried to take the brand over. According to the complaint, Kanna21 had a trademark application for PURE7 filed in its own name in June 2025, and "the uspto issued a nonfinal office action rejecting" it in November 2025. It also says that in December Kanna21 "changed the filing basis for the application from actual" use to intent to use.[5] The complaint quotes a November 2025 filing in which Kanna21 said it was "selling 7oh to the public under kanna21's federally trademarked pure7 brand".[5] The complaint also says Kanna21 registered two lookalike domains, "names gopure7 com on june 24 2025 and therealpure7 com on june 25 2025".[5] What we could check: neither domain has more than a single redirect in the Wayback index. We could not find the trademark file.
- Kanna21's side, as the arbitrator recorded it: Kanna21 says it owns Life Root and PURE7. It brought the arbitration and asked for a restraining order, and for a receiver to be appointed with the funds sequestered.[5] The arbitrator found that Kanna21 or another company owned by its principal owner was initially to hold most of the new company, and that a profit share was used "to avoid disclosure of the ownership structure".[5] He did not decide who owns it.
- The complaint also names a retailer. It says the defendants' customer, "kures apothecary located in las vegas nevada", advertised 7-OH under the disputed mark.[5] Kures is not a party. Our Kures dossier covers it.

Figure 9. The complaint's account of the trademark application. These are the plaintiff's allegations; the court has not ruled on them. [5]
Regulatory and legal
The court case. Life Root sued in the District of Nevada in July 2025 under the Lanham Act, the federal trademark statute.[17] On 8 August 2025 the court denied Life Root's "renewed emergency motion for a preliminary injunction without prejudice and terminated the" temporary restraining order. On 27 August it stayed "this case pending arbitration in colorado".[5] The arbitrator's order of 7 November 2025 held that ownership questions predate the parties' contract, "those disputes are non arbitrable and must be decided by the court", and stayed the arbitration "pending a judicial determination of the ownership of life root".[5] An amended complaint was filed in February 2026. We read nothing on the docket after it.

Figure 10. The case caption, February 2026. Kanna21, LLC is now Alteraex, LLC. The caption also names an individual defendant, cropped here. [5]

Figure 11. The arbitrator's finding, November 2025, filed as an exhibit in the Nevada case: a 7-OH tablet supplier formed in 2023. The order's spellings are its own. [5]
FDA. We found no warning letter to Kanna21, Alteraex or Pure Balance Ventures, either in FDA's list of letters on CBD and Delta-8 products or in a web search of fda.gov.[18]
The DEA and 7-OH. In July 2026 the DEA published a notice of intent to place 7-OH temporarily in Schedule I. On 9 October 2026 it filed a second notice and said that "dea is withdrawing the july 7 2026 notice of intent related to 7 hydroxymitragynine". The new notice would control 7-OH, and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, in solid products above a threshold "greater than 1 mg per gram for solid powders encapsulated material or other solid forms". It also says "neither hhs nor dea has made a finding that these substances are safe to use at below threshold levels".[19] It is a notice, not yet an order. The tablet on the May 2025 certificate held 55.59 mg per gram. The notice also records that "some states such as arizona colorado south carolina and texas have set restrictions on the limits of 7 hydroxymitragynine".[19] Our deep dive on the politics of 7-OH covers how the notices came about.

Figure 12. October 2026: the DEA's second notice of intent on 7-OH, with a new threshold. It is not yet an order. [19]
Hemp claims and age. The hemp site's footer said its products "are intended for use and purchase only by persons 21 and older".[2] Its terms and its pop-up asked only that "you must be at least 18 eighteen years of age before you can use this website".[20] Its health copy said "hhc is not addictive and you cannot overdose".[4] The About page said hemp may "raise sexual libido".[3]

Figure 13. The age check on the same page asked for 18. The footer under it said the products were for people 21 and older. [2]
