The long read
Who they say they are, and what the record says
Most of the alt-cannabinoid trade sells what someone else made. Bona Voluntate says it makes things. Its wholesale site offers white labelling in five words, "you design it we make it in our lab to your exact specifications".[1] Its CB9 page says the company "traced the cannabinoid and engineered a process to make it safely".[2] A buyer who asked was told the same: "they have their own laboratory and produce everything that they sell is what i was told".[3] That is a claim about the company, relayed by a customer. What the record shows is a small Michigan business that, from 2022 to 2025, kept putting molecules on sale that almost nobody else had.
The wholesale domain, bonavoluntate.com, was registered on 2021-10-24.[4] The archive first caught it two months later, with a menu already offering "hhc liters" and a banner that read "we build long term business partners". Lower on the same page, a theme's demonstration text had been left in place: "apparel and sport fashion".[5] The retail store, voluntate.shop, followed in September 2022 under the headline "every cannabinoid".[6]

Figure 1. December 2021, the first archived capture of the wholesale site, two months after the domain was registered. HHC already sells by the litre. [5]

Figure 2. September 2022: the retail store opens, "every cannabinoid". Its first archived product pages are HHC, HHC-O acetate and delta-9 THCP. [6]
Who runs it. The terms say "this website is operated by jrw holdings llc", and the shipping policy is headed "jrw holdings llc dba bona voluntate".[7][8] The terms are a copy of a stock template; they still say "our store is hosted on shopify inc", though neither site runs on Shopify.[7] The retail footer in 2026 gave "grand haven mi 49417" and, by October, "spring lake michigan 49456", two towns a few miles apart on Lake Michigan.[9][10] Laboratory certificates name the same client, "client jrw holdings llc", at a Spring Lake address.[11] No page names a person.

Figure 3. April 2026: the shipping policy names the company behind both sites, "jrw holdings llc dba bona voluntate". [8]
The documents page says "we are licensed and focused on quality distribution" and names no licence.[12]

Figure 4. December 2023: a kilogram jar of H4CBD under the company's own label, and the line "we are licensed and focused on quality distribution". The page names no licence. [12]
What it sells
The commodity shelf. CBD isolate and distillate, CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDA, CBDV and THCV isolates, and crystal-resistant CBD distillate, by the kilogram or the gram.[5] In 2026 the wholesale front page led with bulk CBD.[1]

Figure 5. April 2026, the wholesale front door: bulk CBD, "global delivery", buyers "approved" before they see prices. [1]
The new molecules. This is what set the company apart. The archive dates each product page by its first capture. H4CBD, a hydrogenated CBD, appears on the wholesale site in July 2022, and the company sold it in kilogram jars under its own label.[13][12] HHCP followed in August 2022. The retail store opened that September with HHC, HHC-O acetate and delta-9 THCP; THCH and a house blend in December 2022; HHCH in March 2023; THCB in November 2023; CB9 in December 2023; THC methyl ether in February 2024; and an "HHC iso butyl" in December 2025.[13] In 2022 a buyer reviewing the H4CBD wrote that the company mainly sold wholesale; another, in 2025, bought its HHC "since i heard it had the highest r isomer".[14][15]

Figure 6. Five years of new molecules, dated by the archive's first capture of each product page. Drawn by us. [13]
The Knockout Blend. Sold through 2026 as "hhc and h4cbd base with 10 hhcp 10 thcb and 10 thch". The page says of the HHCP: "it is 33x stronger than hhc".[16] It gives no source for the figure, and we know of no study that measured it.

Figure 7. The house blend in May 2026. Four semi-synthetic cannabinoids, and a potency claim with no source: "33x stronger than hhc". [16]
THCM. In February 2024 the store listed "D9 THCM": "thcm stands for thc methyl ether", with "cas number 36403 68 6".[17] A methyl ether of THC is made from THC by chemistry. The page did not say what THC it was made from.

Figure 8. February 2024: delta-9 THCM, "thc methyl ether", sold with a CAS number. A methyl ether of THC is made from THC; it is not a hemp extract. [17]
HHC iso-butyl. In December 2025 the store offered an HHC with an iso-butyl side chain, promising "classic delta 9 like sensations", made more stable "through hydrogenation", and described as "pure hemp derived hhc iso butyl".[18] Hemp does not make HHC, and no plant is known to make an iso-butyl variant of it. "Hemp derived" here can only mean that the starting material, most likely CBD, came from hemp.

Figure 9. December 2025: "HHC iso butyl", a variant no plant makes, described as "pure hemp derived". The FAQ under it promises a lab test for every product. None was linked. [18]
CB9
CB9 is the product that shows how the company sold its new molecules. The December 2023 page calls it a new psychoactive cannabinoid and says "cb9 is an amber color high viscosity oil that is derived from cbd isolate".[2] It says the company found it in "one of our rare cannabinoids distillate" and then "traced the cannabinoid and engineered a process to make it safely", and that it "has a proprietary difference" from CBD and H4CBD.[2] Two years later the page called CB9 "another cannabinoid discovered in the cannabis plant", made by what "it is a complex chemical process".[19] The page never gives a structure. In November 2023 a buyer who had received the launch email wrote "i cannot find any literature".[20] Neither could we.

Figure 10. December 2023: CB9, "derived from cbd isolate", with "a proprietary difference" that is "difficult to detect on standard hplc testing methods". [2]
The page sells CB9 on two points. The first is that it is "difficult to detect on standard hplc testing methods".[2] HPLC is the method most cannabis laboratories use, so that is a claim that ordinary tests would miss it. The second is the European bans: governments had banned HHC, HHCP and THCP, so "the only solution would be a new cannabinoid that doesnt cross that line", and "cb9 is perfect for any market where cbd is legal but hhc and other psychoactive materials are not".[2] In plain words, a psychoactive drug of undisclosed structure, sold on the promise that it is outside the law and harder to find in a test.

Figure 11. The same page, further down. The selling point is the bans: "a new cannabinoid that doesnt cross that line", for markets where HHC is illegal. [2]
The page tells readers to "find coa at the bottom of this page".[2] The certificate it links is from FESA Labs in Santa Ana, dated 3 November 2023, and marked "for r d use only not a california compliance certificate". It lists CB9 at 96 to 98%. Its footnote explains what that number is: CB9 is "a semi qualitative analysis of a novel compound synthesized from 97 precursor hemp derived", and the "result of cb9 is an assumption of 100 consumption and conversion of precursor".[21] The laboratory did not identify CB9 against a reference standard. It reported what was left after a reaction it was told about. A novel compound synthesized from a precursor is also not "another cannabinoid discovered in the cannabis plant".

Figure 12. The certificate the CB9 page links. The lab did not measure CB9 against a standard: its footnote says the figure assumes all of the precursor became CB9. It is marked for research use only. [21]
What buyers report
We searched the full r/altcannabinoids archive, 33,289 posts from 2020 to 2026, and our copies of r/CultoftheFranklin, r/delta8, r/THCaFlower and r/cleancarts, on 2026-10-11. Seven posts name the company: two in 2022, one in 2023, four in 2025.[22] We read all seven and their comments. None that survives reports a lost order, a refund refused or a bad product. The 2022 H4CBD review was favourable, and a commenter added that the company sent certificates from KCA: "they mainly deal in the wholesale market but they send a coa from kca".[14] In 2025 a buyer called the Knockout Blend very strong; the same account, in a reply, called the company "they are severely underrated".[3] Both 2025 reviews came from that one account. A July 2025 buyer listed "bona voluntate cannaclear" among his usual sources.[23]
Seven posts in five years is too few to say anything about delivery or quality, in either direction. It does say that for a company selling new drugs to the public, very few of its buyers have written about them where we could read it.
Lab results
Until 2026 the company mostly made buyers ask. Product blurbs on the wholesale site read "please contact our sales team to receive a copy of the coa".[1] In May 2026 the retail home page said "you can easily access the certificates of analysis coas on our site", and its footer said "certificates of analysis available on request".[9]
By 11 October 2026 the store's lab page held a table of thirteen certificates from four laboratories, named in the table as Gobi Hemp, Badger Labs, New Bloom Labs and KCA Laboratories.[10] We read all thirteen. Each matches its product's name. The THCB, for one, is a KCA certificate of December 2024 for sample "thcb sample id sa 250410 60054", finding 91.2% delta-9 THCB and no delta-9 THC.[11] The THCV, from Badger Labs in January 2026, is 99.1% THCV.[24]

Figure 13. One of the certificates published in 2026, for THCB: KCA Laboratories, December 2024, 91.2% THCB, no delta-9 THC. It matches its product's name. [11]
What the table leaves out matters as much. There is no certificate for HHC, HHCP, CB9, THCM or HHC iso-butyl, and by October 2026 none of them was on the store's menu.[10] The home page that in May had sold "premium cbd hhc products" no longer mentioned HHC.[9] The company did not say why. Congress passed a law in November 2025 "banning nearly all hemp derived products starting this november", that is, November 2026.[25] The catalogue that remains is mostly CBD and minor cannabinoids, plus THCB, THCH and THCP.

Figure 14. 11 October 2026: thirteen certificates, the first full table the store has published. There is none for HHC, HHCP, CB9, THCM or HHC iso-butyl, and none of them is on the menu any more. [10]
This site's lab-results section holds no independent test of a Voluntate product.
Regulatory and legal
A CourtListener search on 2026-10-11 for "Bona Voluntate", "Voluntate" and "JRW Holdings" found no federal case involving the company.[26] The FDA's list of warning letters to cannabidiol and delta-8 sellers names none of them; the agency says "fda will continue to take action".[27] We found no state action.
The company is in Michigan. Michigan's marijuana law defines THC to include "a tetrahydrocannabinol regardless of whether it is artificially or naturally derived".[28] The store says nothing about that. Its policy leaves the law to the buyer: "they must understand legality in their local and state jurisdiction".[8] We do not say the law reaches any particular product. HHC and its relatives are hexahydro-, not tetrahydrocannabinols, and THCM and CB9 are not in the statute by name.

Figure 15. Michigan's marijuana law, where the company is based, counts as THC any tetrahydrocannabinol "regardless of whether it is artificially or naturally derived". [28]
Age: the product pages carried a 21+ warning and the footer an adults-only line; we found no age check in the archived store.[17][9]

- What CB9 is. Searched: the company's archived pages, its certificate, the scientific literature by name. No structure, no paper, no independent test.
- Whether JRW Holdings LLC is a Michigan company, and who runs it. The sites and certificates name the LLC and no person.
- What licence the company holds. It says it is licensed; its KCA certificates print a licence number for the client. We did not confirm the issuer.
- Why HHC and the newer semi-synthetics left the catalogue in 2026. No statement found.
