Communities — how this list works, and what will never be on it

by ch3ch3 · 12h ago · 0 comments

This site was meant to be a hub between communities rather than another walled one. This is that: the Discord servers, forums and rooms the people who read this site already live in. Anyone with an account can add one, everyone can vote and argue about them, and a moderator reads every submission before it appears.

Adding one

Paste an invite or a link on the Communities page. For a Discord invite we ask Discord for the server's own name, icon, description and size, and show you those rather than a description we made up. Then it waits for a moderator. You will find it under Your submissions on that page the whole time, with its status in plain words — nothing here shows you a listing that looks live to you and is invisible to everyone else.

If it is listed, it is credited to you, not to whoever approved it.

What we do with the pictures

We keep our own copy of a server's icon and serve it from this domain. We never point an <img> at Discord's servers, because that would tell Discord the address of everyone who loaded this page and which page they were on — including people who have never used Discord. This is the same rule the Allies section holds, and it applies to every picture on this site.

We do not store, and never show, who created an invite. That is a named account, and nobody consented to being listed next to a harm-reduction page.

Invites die, and we say so rather than hiding it

Most Discord invites are set to expire, usually after 30 days. We re-check every invite here on a schedule. When one stops working, the listing stays and says so, with the date it went dark — a directory that quietly deletes the servers it can no longer reach is one that hides how out of date it is. If you run a server listed here, a permanent invite (Invite People → Edit invite link → Expire after: Never) is the fix.

What will never be here

No vendors, no shops, no sourcing servers, no "where to buy" — not as a listing, not as a screenshot, not in a comment under one. Obvious shopping hosts are refused before we even look at them, and a moderator refuses the rest. A listing that turns into a sourcing thread will be locked. This is the same line the whole site holds, and it is a legal posture, not a preference.

Listing a community is not an endorsement of it, and it is not a safety check. We do not moderate other people's servers and cannot see what happens inside one. The link out is marked nofollow for exactly that reason. Use your own judgement, and report a listing if a server turns into something other than what it says it is.
