The long read
Who they are, and what the record says
Blackstone Labs is a sports-supplement brand from Boca Raton, Florida. It sells pre-workouts, sleep powders, fat burners and the pills its own Reddit account calls prohormones. In 2021 the company pleaded guilty to federal crimes. Its two co-founders were sentenced to prison. It is still selling.
The company says it "is a closely held corporation organized under the laws of florida in 2012".[1] The indictment dates its Florida registration to 29 August 2012.[2] In 2015 the FDA wrote to it at "aaron singerman blackstone labs llc 9605 parkview avenue boca raton fl 33428".[3] The first product was sold from its own site. On 4 September 2012 superdmz.com offered Super DMZ Rx 2.0, "comparable to dianabol or anadrol".[4] The brand's name came later to the web. In April 2013 "the domain blackstonelabs com is for sale".[5] By November 2015 it was the storefront, "blackstone labs hardcore bodybuilding supplements".[6]

Figure 1. superdmz.com in September 2012, the month after Blackstone Labs was formed. The supplement facts panel lists two steroids by their chemical names, 10 mg each. The bottle in the picture carries another company's brand, IronMag Labs, which later sued Blackstone over the Super DMZ name. [4]
Why it was formed. The company answered that question itself, in the factual proffer it signed when it pleaded guilty in November 2021. It was incorporated "for the specific purpose of obscuring the sale of products marketed as dietary supplements that were tainted with anabolic steroids and therefore could not lawfully be sold".[7] The proffer names the two men who ran it: Aaron Singerman, chief executive, and Phillip "PJ" Braun, president and later chief executive. A third co-founder pleaded guilty to the conspiracy count in 2019 and was sentenced to time served.[8]

Figure 2. The company's own admission, November 2021. It was formed, the proffer says, "for the specific purpose of obscuring the sale" of steroid-tainted supplements. [7]
Who owns it now. Its lawyers told the sentencing court in January 2022: "jared wheat who now owns two thirds of blackstone was not an owner during the period of time the company was involved in illegal activity".[1] Wheat founded Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals of Norcross, Georgia.[9] The filing says he "purchased a one third interest in blackstone in 2017", bought Singerman's share in 2018, and that his company "is now the sole manufacturer of blackstone products".[1] It also says the company was in debt and was keeping going to "save the jobs of its seventeen employees".[1] Who holds the last third is not stated in anything we read. In February 2022 the Justice Department said Braun "is also the ceo of blackstone". Prosecutors told the court that "braun now apparently intends to return to leadership at blackstone after incarceration".[10][11]

Figure 3. Who owns it: the company's lawyers, January 2022. The new majority owner founded Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, which the same filing says now makes every Blackstone product. [1]
The name on the site. Since 2023 the storefront footer has read "copyright blackstone labs fitness supplements llc 2023", then "2024 fitness supplements llc" and "2026 fitness supplements llc".[12][13][14] The site gives no address for that company. We found nothing that explains how Fitness Supplements LLC and Blackstone Labs LLC relate. The number it gives, "call or text 561 476 9230", has a Palm Beach County area code.[14]
What it sold, 2012 to 2017
The 2019 indictment groups the products into four kinds: designer steroids, SARMs, stimulants and nootropics. It says "conspirators distributed hundreds of thousands of bottles of illegal products nationwide and outside the united states".[2] The company admitted most of it two years later. The details below come from the plea papers and the archived site.

Figure 4. The indictment's list of products, March 2019. An indictment is an accusation; the company later admitted the core of it in its plea. [2]
Designer steroids. Super DMZ Rx 2.0 held dimethazine and methylstenbolone, two synthetic steroids with no page on this site. The 2012 page listed them by chemical name at 10 mg each, under a Supplement Facts panel. It promised gains "at a level that is comparable to popular anabolic steroids such as dianabol and anadrol", and told buyers to "step into the future of designer steroids with dimethazine".[4] Alpha-1 Max held methyl-1-etiocholenolol, another.[2] In its proffer the company also admitted selling Epismash, Halo Extreme and Super Trenabol, made to contain epistane, halodrol and trendione, after a December 2014 law listed those three as controlled steroids.[7] Prosecutors put the total in their sentencing memorandum: "from 2014 to 2016 the defendants sold more than 2 9 million in steroid products".[11]
SARMs. OstaPure, Ostapro and PCT IV contained ostarine, an investigational drug.[2] The proffer says the company moved into SARMs when it could no longer sell its steroids in public.[7]
Stimulants. Angel Dust, a pre-workout, was labelled with "AMP Citrate". The FDA's warning letter of 24 April 2015 says the ingredient is DMBA, and that "synthetically produced dmba is not a dietary ingredient as defined in section 201 ff 1 of the act".[3] Blackstone was one of 14 companies to get that letter; the FDA's list reads "blackstone labs llc product angel dust".[15] In November 2015 the home page banner showed a new tub, Dust Extreme, labelled 75 mg of 1,3-DMAA per serving.[6] In February 2017 its product page was headed "dust extreme blackstone labs strongest dmaa pre workout" and announced "1 3 dimethylamylamine is back with a vengeance".[16] The FDA has written to DMAA sellers since 2012. Its page on the compound says: "dmaa is not a dietary ingredient and dmaa containing products marketed as dietary supplements are illegal and their marketing violates the law".[17] Both co-founders admitted selling products with "synthetic stimulants dmaa and dmba".[18] Our deep dive on how one pre-workout stimulant replaces another tells the wider story of DMAA, DMBA and DMHA: Ephedra, DMAA, DMBA, DMHA.

Figure 5. November 2015, seven months after the FDA warning letter about another stimulant. The pre-sale tub on the banner reads "75 mg of 1,3-DMAA per serving". [6]

Figure 6. The warning letter of 24 April 2015. Its subject is Angel Dust and its stimulant, labelled AMP Citrate, which the FDA identifies as DMBA. [3]

Figure 7. Dust Extreme as archived on 11 February 2017, five days before FDA agents searched the company. The page called it the "strongest dmaa pre workout". [16]
Nootropics. Euphoria RX contained picamilon, according to the indictment.[2]
The legal claims. The products were sold as legal supplements. The 2012 page said the only difference between its steroid and Dianabol was that its own was "100% legal".[4] The Justice Department said in 2021 that the company's emails and advertisements claimed the products were made in FDA-approved facilities: "the defendants admitted that they falsely characterized their products as safe and legal dietary supplements", and "in addition they falsely represented that the products were made in" facilities that followed all the rules.[18] The proffer adds that the company advertised its pro-anabolic products as third-party tested before encapsulation, and that this was false.[7]
What it sells now
The catalogue changed after the search. The names mostly did not.
Dust X. By 2019 the house pre-workout was "dust x dmha blackstone labs dmha powered pre workout".[19] In October 2025 its panel listed 150 mg of 2-aminoisoheptane, with the note "2 aminoisoheptane 150mg is an aggressive psychostimulant rivaling that of dmaa also known as dmha".[20] The FDA lists "2 aminoisoheptane" among DMHA's names and says "fda considers dmha to be a substance that does not meet the statutory definition of a dietary ingredient and is an unsafe food additive".[21] In 2021 a federal judge dismissed a class action over Dust X and Arson, a fat burner, which the buyers said contained DMHA; the order recites that "blackstone distributed and sold dust x and arson supplements containing the stimulant dmha". The court left the question to the FDA under the primary jurisdiction doctrine. It notes that the FDA's April 2019 DMHA warning letter to Wheat was "regarding the use of the dmha ingredient in his products".[22] That letter concerned Hi-Tech's own brands.

Figure 8. Dust X, October 2025: 150 mg of 2-aminoisoheptane, which the FDA lists as a name for DMHA. [20]
Anesthetized. A sleep powder. In September 2025 its panel listed 1.8 g of "4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid", and the page said "4 amino 3 phenylbutyric acid 1 800mg is an extremely powerful anxiolytic and relaxation supplement".[23] That is phenibut. The FDA lists the same compound as "4 amino 3 phenylbutanoic acid", the butanoic and butyric names being the same acid, and says "phenibut is a substance that does not meet the statutory definition of a dietary ingredient".[24] The label does not use the word phenibut. In April 2026 a buyer who had praised the powder wrote "i completely missed the phenibut on the label when i first glanced at it".[25] Another answered a doubter in September 2026: "its right on the label 4 amino 3 phenylbutyric acid".[26]

Figure 9. Anesthetized, the sleep powder, September 2025: 1.8 g of 4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid per scoop. That is phenibut, under its chemical name. [23]
Metha-Quad Extreme. "metha quad extreme is the most powerful designer prohormone stack ever created".[13] The October 2025 page lists androsterone, 1-andro, 4-andro and arimistane, and says "pct v and gear support are recommended". In September 2026 the company's Reddit account advertised its last batch as "a 4 compound prohormone formula combined with blackstone labs" liposomal system.[27] We have not tested it and found no document that rules on the legal status of these four ingredients, so this page makes no claim about it. We note only the words the company chose.

Figure 10. Metha-Quad Extreme, October 2025, "the most powerful designer prohormone stack ever created". The company still sells post-cycle products to take after it. [13]
Epismash, again. The name the company admitted it used for an epistane product before 2015 came back by 2020 on a different formula: "novel blend of laxogenin and epicatechin increases in muscle gain non hormonal".[28][7] A Reddit buyer in 2024 vouched for it ("i can vouch for epismash and their standalone epicat products"); another answered "blackstone labs is not a trustworthy brand".[29]
Prohormones, by name. The account u/BLACKSTONE-LABS posts sales in r/prohormones. Of the latest 100 posts there naming the brand, from February to October 2026, 22 are its own.[30] On 17 August 2026 one was headed "buy one get one free all prohormones", with links to Chosen1, Brutal 4ce, Superstrol 7, Abnormal and Metha-Quad.[31]

Figure 11. July 2026, the latest capture. The footer names "fitness supplements llc". There is no age prompt before the shop. [14]
What buyers report
We searched seven subreddits for "blackstone labs" on 2026-10-12 through the Arctic Shift archive: 33 posts in r/bodybuilding, 37 in r/Supplements, 25 in r/Preworkoutsupplements, 12 in r/PEDs, 10 in r/sarmssourcetalk, 7 in r/stimjunkiepreworkouts and 4 in r/steroids, from 2013 to 2026. We also took the latest 100 posts naming Blackstone in r/Prohormones, all from 2026.[30] We read every title, read 16 threads in full, and searched the post text for complaints about delivery, refunds, wrong or fake product and illness.
The pattern is legal, not logistical. We found no run of non-delivery or refund complaints. The busiest threads are about the law. In June 2016 a buyer asked whether DMAA was legal again, because of "a new product from a well known supplement company that contains 1 3" dimethylamylamine.[32] The search in February 2017 got its own thread the same day.[33] The indictment thread of March 2019 drew 128 points and 94 comments; the guilty-plea thread of November 2021, 114 points and 58 comments.[34][35] In 2026 the talk is of Anesthetized's phenibut and of Dust X, mostly from buyers who like them.[25][26]
Injury. The Justice Department said the founders "ignored injury complaints from consumers and did not notify the fda of complaints even when required by law".[18] Prosecutors quoted an August 2016 email in which Braun told a consumer that "super dmz rx 2 0 and alpha 1 max are crude and toxic compounds that i would not bother taking", "even as he continued to sell the products wholesale".[11] The court ordered "38 655 in restitution for medical expenses related to certain victims".[36]
Lab results
We found no certificate of analysis on any product page we read, from 2015 to 2025.[20][23][13] This site's lab-results section holds no test of a Blackstone product. The company's only testing claim we can check is the one it admitted was false: that its pro-anabolic compounds were third-party tested before encapsulation.[7]
Regulatory and legal

2014 and 2015. In March 2014 FDA enforcement reports announced that a manufacturer had recalled Blackstone's Methadrol and Super DMZ Rx 2.0 as unapproved new drugs. The company read them and kept selling, the proffer says.[7] On 18 December 2014 the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act took effect. It amended the definition of an anabolic steroid so that a substance "derived from or has a chemical structure substantially similar to 1 or more anabolic steroids listed in subparagraph a shall be considered to be an anabolic steroid for purposes of this chapter", if it is made to promote muscle growth or marketed that way.[38] The jury that convicted the director of sales heard that the conspirators "continued selling the products for more than 18 months" after it.[39] The Angel Dust letter followed in April 2015; the letter warned that "failure to immediately cease distribution of your product angel dust and any other products you market that contain dmba could result in enforcement action by fda without further notice".[3] The conspirators "quickly sold off other blackstone products containing certain stimulants after they received an fda warning letter", the Justice Department said.[39]
The search, February 2017. FDA criminal agents searched the company's premises in Boca Raton. Blackstone's own petition for the property's return, filed in October 2018, says "the agents seized more than 1 million in nutritional supplement products computerized documents and information many pages of company business documents and 223 430 40 from the company bank account".[40] It argued that "the government has not put forth evidence identifying any basis to believe that subject products contain controlled substances or are misbranded". The government answered in March 2019 that the "recently unsealed indictment provides petitioner with an adequate remedy at law".[41]

Figure 13. The company's own account of the February 2017 search, filed when no one had yet been charged. It asked for the products and the money back. [40]
The indictment, March 2019. A grand jury in the Southern District of Florida returned a 14-count indictment on 7 March 2019 against six people and two companies, Blackstone Labs LLC and Ventech Labs LLC, its manufacturer. It was unsealed on 13 March.[37][2] The next day Blackstone posted that "the indictment does not challenge any of blackstone labs current product formulations", that "it has promoted only products that fully comply with the law and prevailing practices", and that "blackstone labs remains open for business".[12] The post was still on its site in 2024.

Figure 14. The day after the indictment was unsealed, the company called the charges false. The post was still on its site in 2023 and 2024, two years after the guilty plea. [12]
The pleas, November 2021. Braun and Singerman pleaded guilty on 17 November 2021 to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and to introducing unapproved new drugs into interstate commerce. Blackstone Labs pleaded guilty on 19 November to the same counts and to conspiracy to defraud the FDA and to commit mail and wire fraud.[18] Singerman also admitted "controlling a supplement manufacturer that fraudulently imported raw ingredients for their products from china", the Justice Department said.[42] The proffer describes how. Fight Pharm LLC, formed in 2014, and its successors VBS Laboratories and Ventech Labs made Blackstone's products in a warehouse near its offices. A friend of the founders was listed as Fight Pharm's owner while Braun and Singerman controlled it, so that steroid sales could move off Blackstone's books.[7]
The trial, December 2021. James Boccuzzi, Blackstone's director of sales, went to trial and was convicted by a jury on 9 December 2021[10] of conspiracy to defraud the FDA and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. He had made a fake certificate of free sale, "representing himself to be an employee of the fda in order to ship blackstone labs products internationally".[36]
The sentences, 2022. Judge William P. Dimitrouleas sentenced each co-founder to 54 months. For Singerman, on 27 January 2022, the Justice Department wrote that the judge "sentenced singerman to 54 months in prison and ordered him to forfeit 2 9 million". Braun, on 17 February, was sentenced the same day as the company: "sentenced braun to 54 months in prison and ordered him to forfeit 3 million the court also ordered blackstone labs to pay 1 2 million in forfeiture".[42][10][43][44] Blackstone Labs was adjudicated guilty on three counts and put on five years of probation, with a condition that it adopt a compliance and ethics programme.[45] Its forfeiture was the $223,430.40 seized in 2017 plus a $1,000,000 money judgment.[46] Its lawyers had asked for no more, writing that "a sentence above the 1 000 000 forfeiture would be the death knell for blackstone labs".[1] Anthony Ventrella, who "operated a series of companies that manufactured many of the illegal products marketed and sold by blackstone", got 13 months; Ventech Labs got three years of probation and forfeited its encapsulation and filling machines.[10][47] Boccuzzi got 51 months and a $20,000 fine on 11 March 2022: the court "sentenced boccuzzi to 51 months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of 20 000".[36] "In total eight individuals and three companies were convicted in connection with the activities of blackstone labs", and they were "ordered to forfeit a total of nearly 8 million".[10][36]

Civil suits. A Washington buyer sued in 2020 over the DMAA in a pre-workout "known as dust extreme", and dropped the case within three months.[48] The Dust X and Arson class action was dismissed in 2021.[22] A text-message class action under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act ended with "the above styled action is dismissed with prejudice" in 2019.[49] In 2015 IronMag Labs, whose brand appears on the bottle in the 2012 Super DMZ page, sued Blackstone for trademark infringement, saying it had registered SUPER DMZ in May 2015 and used it since 2010.[50]
Allegations: who says what, why, and what we could check
- That Anogenin contained an undeclared steroid. A Polish weightlifter sued Blackstone and two individuals in New York in 2022. He says a drug test in April 2019 "revealed the presence of metandienone in his system", and blames Anogenin, a Blackstone capsule sold as an anabolic activator.[51][6] Who says it: the athlete, who wants damages. What we could check: Anogenin is on the 2015 home page and among the products the company asked the court to return in 2018.[6][40] No test of Anogenin is in the record we read, and we found no ruling. It is untested, and nothing above rests on it.
